BOX SCORE

LONG BEACH-- Donavan Bragg made just one of two free throws with nine seconds remaining in overtime, but Long Beach State (4-13) could not snag the ensuing missed free throw, as Cal State Bakersfield (7-13) came away with an 80-77 overtime victory on Wednesday evening at the Walter Pyramid.

Greg Plater's desperation three-point at the buzzer did not fall after the 49ers got the ball back following a timeout, turnover on the inbounds and a missed 1-and-1 free throw attempt, all with 13 seconds remaining.

Trent Blakley finished with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, hitting the game-tying three-pointer with four seconds left in regulation, tying the contest at 68-68. CSUB shot .484 for the game and hit 5-of-7 shot in the overtime period.

Donovan Morris had 27 points and Brice Gallow added a career-best 10 points and five rebounds, as the 49ers shot .466 for the game and .456 in the second half. Cornel Williams was the third 49er in double digits with 10 points. Arturas Lazdauskas led the way on the boards with eight rebounds, to compliment his eight points.

Terrence Johns fouled out with 20 points, after giving CSUB a 79-75 lead with 57 seconds left in overtime, as he was charged with an offensive foul with 31 seconds left with Bakersfield leading 79-77. The 49ers though called a timeout with 12.8 seconds left, but then turned the ball back to the Roadrunners, as Bragg then converted 1-of-2 charity tosses.

The Roadrunners tied the game at 68-68 by stealing the ball with 17.8 seconds remaining and down 68-65, immediately calling a timeout following a scramble at mid-court. The 49ers then, with just four team fouls, fouled with 8.9 seconds remaining. With four seconds remaining off an inbounds, Blakely tied the game with a three-pointer to send it into overtime.

Morris twice extended the lead for the 49ers late in the half, hitting two free throws with two and a half minutes left to make it 65-62, and a key three-pointer with 55 seconds remaining to make it 68-62.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 39-36 lead to start the second half, using a 12-2 run to lead with 16:31 left, before Gallow scored five straight to take the lead for the 49ers at 57-53 with six and a half minutes remaining.

LBSU led 34-27 at the half shooting .448 from the field. CS Bakersfield countered with a .393 percent clip led by 10 first half points by Demarcus Hall. The 49ers had led by 10 points in the half, before CSUB went on a 5-2 run over the final two minutes to close to within seven. A Brian Freeman layup with 2:15 remaining made it 32-22.

The 49ers travel to CS Northridge for a game on Saturday at 4 p.m., live nationally on Fox Prime Ticket.
