49ers In 10th Place After Day One
Katnik moves up to tie at 11th place

NEWPORT, R.I. -- After two rounds of play and 36 holes, the Long Beach State men's golf team is currently in 10th place after shooting a 317 in the second round for a total of 614, completing day one at the Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic. Earlier in the day, the 49ers were only eight strokes behind leader Wichita State in the opening round, with a score of 297 at the Newport National Golf Course. Wichita State leads the field of 15 teams with a 591 (289-302).

Individually, sophomore Karl Katnik moved up in the standings from finishing tied for 13th place in the first round to a tie for 11th after a three-over 75 in the second round for a two-round score 149. Sophomore Michael Drake and freshman Eric Pitcaithley are tied for 32nd place after shooting a nine-over 73 in the second round, finishing with a score of 154. Freshman Ricky Montanez finished tied for 44th and Issei Suenaga finished in 77th. Andrew Pitcher of Francis Marion is on top of the leader board after finishing the second round with a two-over 74 with a score of 144.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday.
