LAKEWOOD, CA -- The Long Beach State 49ers (7-13) defeated the Canisius College Golden Griffins (4-5) 7-0 in their home opener in the Long Beach Invitational at Mayfair Park. Bridgette Pagano (6-4) tossed her third shutout of the season as she went the distance allowing only three hits while striking out five.

Jessica Beaver went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI, while Brooke LeSage went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Brianna Goad added a double and a run scored for the 49ers.

Long Beach State pushed three runs across in the first inning thanks to four walks and a Whitney Radcliff single. The 49ers then struck twice in the top of the fifth when LeSage's triple brought home Beaver and Panita Thanatharn, and LBSU added two more in the seventh with Beaver's double.

The 49ers resume play at the Long Beach Invitational at Mayfair Park tomorrow when they take on Southern Utah at 1:30 pm and then UCLA at 6:00 pm.
