49ers Unable to Stay with LMU
Nicole Hughes had five goals and Stacia Peterson added four for the Lions. After playing to within two goals in the second period, LBSU twice closed to within one in the third period of play. A Ashley Heaslip goal at 5:50 made it 6-5 following a 6-3 LMU halftime lead, before the Lions went ahead 8-5 on a Peterson goal at 4:45. Another comeback came to close out the period , as two-straight Wensman scores made it 8-7 with 2:30 left. LMU would build it back up to 10-7, before a late Wensman goal made it 10-8. LMU then scored the first two goals of the fourth period and never looked back. The 49ers held serve with the Lions in the second period, twice closing to within two goals, at 7:!9 on a Dayna Wawrzynski score and then again at 4:09 on a Wensman net-finder. LMU built a 3-1 lead after the first period on a Katie Hicks score with 36 seconds left to made it 3-1. The 49ers travel to USC on Saturday at noon to complete a four-game week. |
