BOX SCORE

LONG BEACH—Long Beach State (12-6-0, 5-2-0 Big West) remained in contention for the Big West title with a 3-1 win over visiting Cal Poly (7-9-1, 5-2-0 Big West) on Friday afternoon.

Lindsay Bullock, Mariko Strickland and Yeraldy Hurtado all scored goals as the 49ers out shot the Mustangs 15-to-5 in what became a very physical match, resulting in a combined 37 fouls and three yellow cards. The 49ers also broke the school-record for scoring, now at 35 with today's three scores.

With the win, LBSU tied its school-record for conference wins, set last year when they won the title, and gave them 15 overall points. Idle CS Fullerton (6-2-0) has 18 points and is done with its season, while Cal Poly remained with 15 points. Cal Poly plays at CS Northridge on Sunday with a possibility of a three-way tie for first place, as the 49ers host UC Santa Barbara. Both teams would need to win for that to occur as hosting duties for next week's Big West Tournament would come down to how the rest of the conference finished up.

Bullock got the 49ers on the board in the 12th minute heading the ball in off a Kim Silos corner kick to give the 49ers a 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, Carrie Andrews nearly tied it up, but goalkeeper Breanna Truelove made a save on the Mustangs only shot on goal for the afternoon.

LBSU then went up 2-0 in the 63rd minute when Cat Gray kicked it through three Cal Poly defenders and found Mariko Strickland, who sent it through the arms of goalkeeeper Alli Tramel at 62:14.

Yeraldy Hurtado's footwork finished the scoring for the 49ers, as she back kicked the ball, faking out a defender, before reving up and firing from 18 yards out to make it 3-0 at 75:01.

Reserve Jenny Sparks added the only tally for the Mustangs after both teams emptied their benches, taking a cross from Ashley Vallis and heading it in at 86:28.
