NORTHRIDGE— Long Beach State (10-4-0, 3-0-0 Big West) survived a hot day in the San Fernando Valley, scoring three unanswered goals to defeat CS Northridge (2-9-1, 0-3-0 Big West) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. Sahar Haghdan scored the game winner in the 51st minute, before Kim Silos put the contest out of reach with three minutes remaining.

It was the team's third-straight season with 10 wins, a first in program history, as LBSU remained in first place in the Big West Conference with three straight road wins.

"We have had to overcome a lot of adversity lately, playing without three starters, who are injured," said Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia. "This was a team effort today, as it has been over our last three road wins. This just continues to show how deep we are as a team, and how everyone is contributing for one common goal."

The winning score was set up when Hayley Bolt headed the ball ahead at midfield to Haghdan, who went 1-v-1 with the goalkeeper, and then shot it past the goalkeeper from 30 yards out to give LBSU a 2-1 lead five minutes into the second half.

Kim Silos then made it 3-1 at 87:35, stealing a re-start from goalkeeper Kellie Drenner, inside the 49er end, and shooting from 22 yards out to make it 3-1.

The 49er defense held CSUN with one shot for a good 30 minutes after taking the one goal lead, as they finished out shooting the Matadors 14-to-12. A couple of out of reach shots late in the contest made the final shot total closer than advertised.

The 49ers nearly made it a two-goal advantage in the 69th minute, when Katelyn Quaesma missed wide after taking a pass from Nikki Myers. LBSU had tied the match in the 16th minute.

Lindsay Bullock's header at 15:43 tied the score at 1-1, taking a cross from the right side from Dana Farquhar to equalize the match. Both teams had four shots over the first 45 minutes.

The 49ers had to play from behind early as twice in the opening minutes Carrie Murphy and Kristy Kohn broke deep into the 49er end. The second opportunity by the duo, at 1:35 from Kohn to Murphy, gave CSUN a 1-0 lead.

Starting forward Kristen Kiefer, the team's leading scorer, and defender Grace Shevlin remained out of the lineup due to ankle injures. The 49ers return home to host CS Fullerton on Friday and UC Riverside on Sunday next weekend.
