Picked Third in Pre-Season Poll IRVINE, CA -- Defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton topped
the coaches ballots with six first-place votes to earn the top ranking.
The Titans return 2006 Co-Big West Field Player of the Year Ashley Van
Boxmeer, who hit 58 home runs in 61 games last season, to lead Coach Michelle
Gromacki’s squad. Cal Poly was second in the poll with 35 points.
The Mustangs were second in the Big West last season in batting average
(.257), runs (213) and total bases (534). Long Beach State was picked
to finish third with 33 points. LBSU, who finished second in the Big West
in 2006, will rely on Jonae Perez to jumpstart the offense as she led
the 49ers last year with 40 hits and a .303 batting average. UC Santa
Barbara and Pacific tied for the fourth spot in the poll, while CS Northridge
and UC Riverside rounded out the poll.
