Hoey Wins Tournament Title
Beach Finishes In Eighth Place

FORT COLLINS, CO-- Long Beach State junior Kay Hoey won the individual title at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic by shooting a seven-under 209 (67-74-68). Hoey shot a four-under 68 in Tuesday's second round to claim the tournament title by five strokes over her nearest competitor. As a team, the 49ers finished in eighth place with a three-round score of 898.

Hoey set numerous 49er records on the day with her winning performance. Her three-round score of 209 broke her previous school-record low of 216 which she had accomplished three times previously. Her 67 in Monday's opening round was a new low individual record, breaking her mark of 68 which set set last spring at the Fresno State Spring Invitational. This is the third tournament title in Hoey's 49er career as she won the Oregon Invitational (218) and Fresno State Invitational (216) in the spring of 2005 as a true freshman. Hoey has always performed well at this tournament, finishing tied for third in 2004 (216) and eighth in 2005 (216).

"I was extremely proud of the way Kay played today," said 49er Head Coach Sue Ewart. "Yesterday we had to sit through two weather delays and that kind of threw everybody off. Our scores weren't great in the second round. But last night at dinner when Kay looked at where she was after Monday's play, seeing the look on her face, I knew she would come out and have a great day on Tuesday. Overall I was pleased with everybody's performance on Tuesday."

Finishing second overall was Colorado's Lindsay Senger who shot a 214 (71-70-73), five shots behind Hoey. Chloe Nelson (E. Washington), Jennifer Shipley (Fresno State) and Krista Swanson (Montana) all tied for third at 215.

Also for the 49ers, Katy Barrett tied for 40th place overall with a 229 (77-79-73), Beth Holtermann tied for 46th with a 230 (77-76-77), Josefine Lindbergh finished 51st at 232 (76-80-76) and Kira Murashige tied for 52nd at 234 (75-82-77).

The overall team title went to the University of Colorado which shot an 872 (286-292-294). Baylor finished second at 873 and San Jose State third at 879.

The 49ers will next be in action on September 18-19 when they compete at the Oregon State Invitational at the Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, OR.
