Former First Rounder, Tulowitzki, Called up to Rockies DENVER, CO-- Former All-American shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (2003-05) became the second Long Beach State player to be called up to the Majors this season when he was purchased from Double-A Tulsa by the Colorado Rockies. As reported on MLB.com, he could start for the Rockies today in Denver after spending just 126 games in the minors. Tulowitzki was drafted seventh overall in the 2005 draft. The Rockies play at Dodger Stadium this weekend. Long Beach State baseball has now had 14 players in the Major Leagues this season, as Tulowitzki joined Angels rookie phenom Jered Weaver as newcomers this season. Overall, LBSU has produced 28 Major Leaguers beginning with Dick Nen in 1963. Tulowitzki batted .291 this season with 13 home runs and 61 RBIs with Double-A Tulsa after batting .266 in 22 games at Single-A Modesto in 2005. In two minor league seasons Tulowitzki batted .286 with 17 home runs, 40 doubles and 75 RBIs. He was invited to participate in the MLB Futures Game as well. While at Long Beach State, Tulowitzki batted .310 with 20 home runs and 117 RBIs over 155 games at shortstop.He was a two-time All-American, culminating in third team status as a junior in 2005. |
