Duo Earns All-America Honors in the Triple Jump SACRAMENTO, CA-- John Temidara (Santa Fe Springs) made sure his final collegiate meet would be a memorable one, leading the NCAA Championship triple jump for four and a half rounds before finishing third with a mark of 53'3.75". Temidara, along with fellow senior Ronald Carter (Gardena), who finished seventh with a mark of 51'11.25", were both named All-Americans. This is the first All-America honors for both athletes, as they join decathlete Chris Richardson as the program's most All-Americans since 1976. That year, two of those All-Americans, Don Baird (Pole Vault) and Dwight Stones (high jump), went on to compete in the Olympics. For their efforts, assistant Coach Dave Rodda earned West Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors for his work with the multi-eventers, long jumpers, high jumpers and triple jumpers. Overall, the 49er men finished tied for 16th place with 14 points, ahead of UCLA (T-22nd), Washington (T-22nd), California (46th) and Stanford (37th). Florida State won the overall meet on the men's side. |
