Turner Equals Wins Record; LBSU Wins Series SANTA BARBARA, CA -- Michelle Turner tied two single-season school records with her 25th win in the circle and her 29th complete game, as the Long Beach State softball team defeated UC Santa Barbara, 2-1 from the Campus Diamond on Saturday. Turner tied Annette Gonzales who had 25 wins in the circle during the 1988 season, and also tied Kristi Fox who had 29 complete games in 2000. LBSU ended its regular season at 30-20 (13-5 Big West), while the Gauchos finished at 24-20 (8-10 Big West). The victory also marked the fifth straight season that the 49ers won 30 or more games in a season. Long Beach State has won 22 of its last 23 conference series since April of 2003 as well. The 49ers got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning when Brooke LeSage connected for a two-out single thru the middle to score Jonae Perez from third base, to give LBSU a 1-0 lead. Perez led off the inning with a single. The Gauchos had a serious threat in the bottom of the sixth inning with the bases loaded and one out. But Tiffany Wright lined out to short stop Jessica Beaver for the second out. On the same play Beaver then threw out Kendra Singley at third base for the final out. Melanie McCauley scored on a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh inning to give The Beach a 2-0 lead. The Gauchos made a late push in the bottom of the seventh inning after a Jennifer Davis solo home run cut the lead to 2-1. The 49ers will wait to see if they will make their fourth straight NCAA Regional (and 17th overall) when the NCAA broadcasts its selection show on ESPNews, tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. (pst).
