49ers Drop Both Games to CSUF
FULLERTON, CA -- The Long Beach State softball team dropped both of its games to CS Fullerton in Saturday's double-header from Anderson Field. Both losses dropped the 49ers to 20-17, 5-3 Big West, while the wins helped the Titans improve to 25-18, 6-2 Big West. CSUF used the long ball four times in the second game, including an 11-run fourth inning to cruise to the 16-0 victory. The Titans took advantage of two early fielding errors by Long Beach State in the first and second innings of game one to take a 2-0 lead, before the 49ers cut the deficit in half at 2-1, after Jessica Beaver's RBI single scored Breezy Goad in the third inning. Long Beach State however could not capitalize in the rest of the third inning after Jonae Perez lined into a double-play, with the bases loaded, ending the scoring threat. The 49ers threatened to score and take the lead in the fourth inning when they had runners on second and third base with just one out. However, Kourtnee Gervasi lined out in a double-play to the CSUF third baseman to end the inning. CS Fullerton got to LBSU starting pitcher Michelle Turner in the fifth inning with three runs, including a two-run home run from Katie Gollhardt. The Titans added four more runs in the sixth inning to force the mercy rule and end the game. The loss was Turner's eighth of the season. Game three will be on Wednesday, April 19 at 5 pm at CSUF.
