LBSU Splits Again on Day 2

Turner, Gervasi Help 49ers to 7-4 Victory
TUCSON, AZ -- Michelle Turner's two home runs and season high nine strikeouts in the circle helped lead Long Beach State to a 7-4 win over South Florida in the second day of the Hillenbrand Invitational (hosted by No. 1-ranked Arizona) on Saturday morning. LBSU (10-8), however, dropped a 10-1 decision to Sam Houston State in the afternoon contest. After South Florida scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, the 49ers responded with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Kourtnee Gervasi provided the big hit has her two-run home run also allowed Jonae Perez to score. South Florida responded in the second inning with three runs to retake the lead at 4-3, before LBSU added two more runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Turner's two-run home run also plated Brianna Goad, who reached base on an error. Turner's second two-run home run in the seventh inning gave LBSU a 7-4 lead and the eventual win.Turner allowed four runs on nine hits. After holding a 2-1 lead thru four innings, Sam Houston State outscored Long Beach State, 8-0 over the last three innings. The 49ers wrap up the tournament on Sunday.
