Temidara Finishes in 10th at the NCAAs FAYETTEVILLE, AR-- Senior John Temidara (Santa Fe Springs, CA) finished in 10th place at the NCAA Indoor Championships, his best national finish in three attempts at the NCAA Championships. Temidara came into the meet ranked 14th, and with a jump of 7'1.5" bettered finishes of 11th and 15th at two previous championships in 2005. Temidara was the leader going into the 7'2.5" mark, after clearing the bar three previous times on his first attempt. He then could not clear 7'2.5", a lifetime best, on three consecutive tries. "I'm sure it is a disappointment for John," said Head Coach Andy Sythe. "Things changed and he did not have the same rhythym as his previous attempts. He did not have the precision that he did on the first three. "He's quite a jumper and I still believe he could be one of America's leading jumpers during the outdoor season," continued Sythe. "I've never seen a championship where so many athletes hit their first two jumps. You usually see a few no-heights, but not today. It was a very tough meet." The 49ers were also slated to send a full team to the Ben Brown Outdoor Invitational in Fullerton, but due to incliment weather, only a handful of distance runners were slated to compete. |
