LONG BEACH, CA-- Brian Schroeder (2-0) pitched seven strong innings as UCLA put away No. 15-ranked Long Beach State (9-5) 6-3 on Tuesday evening. Schroeder set down the first nine Dirtbags and retired another six in a row midway through the contest, as the lefthander gave up just three runs on four hits in his longest outing of the season.

Long Beach State, which used just two relievers over the weekend, rotated the staff through the night, using five pitchers, with Brett Andrade and Andrew Liebel both pitching two scoreless innings to close out the contest.

Four of the Dirtbags five hits came from the top of the order, with two coming from Danny Espinosa.

A two-run homer by Cody Decker, just his third hit of the season, gave UCLA a 2-0 lead in the first. The Bruins added a run in the second off a sacrifice fly as Dirtbag starter Shane Peterson (0-1) gave up three runs on two hits over three innings.

UCLA added two runs off of reliever Mike Malott and another off of Scott Turmail in the fifth to lead 6-2, after the Dirtbags scored two runs in the fourth to close to within 3-2.

A two-out Jose Hernandez single to center cut the lead to one, after a double play ball with the bases loaded made it 3-1.

The Dirtbags close out the homestand with a three-game series with Baylor starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday's Mike Weathers Show live from Cirivello's at 4115 Viking Way will feature Brandon Godfrey and Donnie Hume from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
