SAN DIEGO, CA – The Long Beach State softball team rebounded from two early losses on Thursday with a 7-2 win over Kentucky on Friday at the 2006 Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State.
Michelle Turner (Buena Park) helped Long Beach State improved to 7-5 after allowing two runs on six hits and five strikeouts over seven innings of work for her fifth win of the season.
Tiffanie Wedell (Hacienda Heights) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Lacy Tyler (La Mirada) went 2-for-2 with four RBI.
After Kentucky took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Long Beach State answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Brianna Goad (Norco) led the inning off with a walk, and quickly scored after a stolen base and a throwing error by the UK centerfielder. Tyler provided the key hit in the inning when her single plated Turner and Wedell. A Brooke LeSage (Corona) single followed to score Kourtnee Gervasi (Baldwin Park).
The 49ers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and it was Tyler once again with the big hit as her single plated both Gervasi and Franciska Morlet (Whittier).
LBSU resumes action at the Aztec Invitational tomorrow when it faces Western Kentucky at 9 am and Wagner at 11:15 am. |
