STOCKTON, CA-- The No. 1-ranked Long Beach State men's volleyball team improved to 7-0 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the MPSF with a 30-23, 30-23, 39-37 win at the University of the Pacific on Saturday night. Robert Tarr led the way with 28 kills for the 49ers. Pacific falls to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the MPSF.
Long Beach hit an impressive .438 on the evening, committing just 15 hitting errors in the match. The 49ers also controlled the net, out-blocking the Tigers 15.0 to 7.0. Teddy Liles led the way with seven block assists, to go along with seven kills, while Tarr, Duncan Budinger and Tyler Hildebrand all had five block assists.
Budinger finished the night with 12 kills and a .611 (12-1-18) hitting percentage. Paul Lotman had nine kills and seven digs and Hildebrand added three kills and 58 assists to go along with his five block assists. Long Beach out-dug the Tigers 35 to 28 as Francisco Valdez garnered a team-high nine digs.
Brian Adamson led Pacific with 16 kills and Andreas Baboulidis had 15 kills and 10 digs. Pacific hit .256 on the night with 25 hitting errors.
The only tight game of the night was game number three. Long Beach hit .409 (24-6-44) and UOP .341 (23-8-44).
Long Beach State will next be in action on Thursday, January 26 when they host Pepperdine at 7:30 pm at the Walter Pyramid. |
