Duo Named to All-America Squad BRIDGEPORT, PA-- Junior attacker Cassie Azevedo (Long Beach/Wilson HS) and senior 2-meter guard Drue Wawrzynski (Garden Grove/Los Alamitos HS) were each named All-Americans by the American Water Polo Coaches Association. Azevedo was named a second team All-American after leading the 49ers with 64 goals and to a No. 5 national ranking. Azevedo is a two-time first team All-MPSF selection, earning the honor in 2004 and 2005 and was an honorable mention all-conference selection as a freshman. She was named a third team All-American as a sophomore and will enter her senior season fifth all-time in career scoring with 150 goals. Wawrzynski earned the first award of her career, as she was named an honorable mention All-American. Wawrzynski finished her career fourth all-time in career goals with 151, including 28 this past season. Wawrzynksi, whose father Paul was an All-American in the 1970's for the 49ers, is just the sixth 49er woman to be named an All-American in the program's eight years. The Beach finished with third-most wins in school-history at 21-9. The 8-4 mark in conference play also tied a 49er-best for most wins. ALL-AMERICA TEAM |
