49ers In First Place After First Day FRESNO, CA-- Both of the Long Beach State men's and women's track and field teams are in first place after the first day of the Cal-Nevada Championships, as Kim Heinz and Samantha Young each broke the school-record in the javelin. The pair lead the javelin competition after the first round with a toss of 158'1", breaking Heinz' mark of 157'7" set early this year. With two events complete, Jimmy Grabow helped the 49ers stay in first place with a win in the 5,000-meter, while Meredith Kramon won the 3,000-meter. Charles Lewis ran a personal-best 47.49 in the 400-meter and leads the field after the preliminaries with the conference's top mark. Lewis also had the second-best 200-meter time at today's championships. The Championships continue through Saturday. |
