LONG BEACH, CA-- No. 14-ranked Long Beach State (27-12, 8-1 Big West) pounded out 14 hits and the nation's leading pitching staff lowered its staff ERA to 1.94 with a 6-0 win over visiting CS Northridge (12-20-1, 0-9 Big West) on Sunday. With the sweep, the Dirtbags have now won nine of its last 11.

Jared Hughes pitched 6.2 shutout innings for his third straight win, striking out eight on the afternoon. Hughes gave up five hits and even loaded the bases in the seventh with three hit batters, only to settle down and keep CSUN off the scoreboard.

Troy Tulowitzki went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, while Evan Longoria also pounded out three hits.

The seventh was the Matadors' best shot at getting to the 49er righthander, loading the bases with no outs thanks to three hit by pitches. Hughes kept them scoreless though, tagging out one runner attemping to come plateward on a errant pitch, before striking out Raymond Ravago for his final batter. Brett Andrade then came on with two runners on and two outs and prompted a flyout to end the inning.

LBSU took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Jordan Struble RBI single, before producing four hits in the fifth inning to lead 3-0. Back-to-back RBI singles with the bases loaded by Tulowitzki and Sean Boatright led to the rally. Boatright's hit extended his hit streak to 16 games.

The Beach then doubled the score in the sixth with three more runs to lead 6-0. A bases loaded hit by pitch to Chris Jones made it 4-0, before a two-run single from Tulowitzki made it 6-0.

Jimmy Brettle exited in the sixth, giving up five runs on 10 hits over 5.1 innings.

The Beach embarks on a four-game road trip starting with the team's final Tuesday contest of the season, when it travels to Loyola Marymount for a contest at 3 p.m. LBSU remains on the road at Pacific this weekend.
