Dirtbags Take Series with Baylor, Win 7-6
WACO, TX-- Evan Longoria and Sean Boatright had four hits a piece, while the bullpen of Brian Anderson and Neil Jamison shut the door on the Bears for the second-straight night as No. 25-ranked Long Beach State (11-6) took the series with No. 14-ranked Baylor (7-6), winning 7-6 on Saturday. After Baylor closed to within one-run in the seventh inning, Donnie Hume got the second out, before Anderson came on and got the next four outs. Jamison picked up his fifth save and second of the series with a perfect ninth inning. On Friday, LBSU retired the final 14 Bear batters, today they retired the final nine. Boatright went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while Longoria went 4-for-5 with to runs from the leadoff spot as The Beach pounded out 14 hits. Chris Jones had two RBI singles to raise his team-best average to .421. The Beach got to Cory VanAllen (2-2) early and often, scoring five runs off the lefthander over the first four innings. An RBI single by Brandon Godfrey made it 1-0, before an RBI single from Jordan Struble put two runs on the board in the first. LBSU added another run in the second inning off a Chirs Jones single, before taking a 5-3 lead in the fourth off a two-run double from Boatright. VanAllen lasted just 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits. Jones tacked on a run in the fifth inning with another RBI single to make it 6-3. The Bears would come back yet again, scoring two unearned runs in the fifth to close to within 6-5 off a two-run double from Dillon. Marco Estrada (3-0) gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits over 5.0 innings for The Beach, leaving with a 6-5 lead. An RBI double from Longoria added to the lead and made it 7-5 in the seventh. Baylor tied the game in the first and third innings as an RBI groundout by Josh Ford followed by an RBI double from Dillon tied the score at 2-2 in the first. Baylor tied it again in the third with a double play ball in the third.
