LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State righthander Jared Hughes (2-2) pitched a four-hit complete game as No. 29-ranked Long Beach State (18-10) took the series with No. 1-ranked CS Fullerton (17-6) winning 3-1 in the rubber game of the three-game series. Fullerton, which had entered the series with a .355 batting average, were held to just a .144 average for the three-game series.

Hughes, who had entered the game having given up 13 runs over his last three starts, pitched to one over the minimum over the final eight innings.

Sean Boatright drove in two runs on the night with an RBI single in the fourth and an RBI double in the sixth to give LBSU a 3-1 lead. Godfrey's RBI single in the fourth gave LBSU a 1-0 lead, prior t Boatright's single.

Wes Roemer went the first 5.2 innings for the Titans, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits, striking out three and walking none.

The series saw 6624 fans come through the turnstiles, the third-best regular season series crowd in school-history. Tonight;s crowd of 2662 was 10t-best.

The Dirtbags open up Big West play next weekend at Blair Field when they host UC Riverside starting on Friday.
