LONG BEACH, CA-- As if lefthander Cesar Ramos (6-3) could not be any more dominate. The Long Beach State lefthander threw his third-straight complete game, this time on 103 pitches as No. 20-ranked Long Beach State (19-10, 1-0 Big West) opened up Big West play with a 6-1 win over visiting UC Riverside (12-13, 0-1 Big West). All-American Troy Tulowitzki score three runs and was one of four players with multi-hit games.

Ramos went the distance to win his third in a row, giving up one run on seven hits, striking out nine and walking just one. Ramos retired the first eight Highlanders and the last seven to give the Southpaw the most wins in the Big West.

The Dirtbags got in the scoreboard in the third inning with their third homer of the season, a solo shot by Evan Longoria to give LBSU a 1-0 lead.The Beach went up 2-0 in the fourth with a squeeze bunt from Brandon Godfrey.

The Beach scored two more runs in the sixth inning to lead 4-1 thanks to an RBI double from Sean Boatright followed by an RBI single from Chris Jones. Jose Shaw (1-2) went the first 5.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.

Reliever Daniel Stange went the next two, giving up two runs in the eighth inning, off a couple of passed balls and a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Jordan Struble to give the Dirtbags a 6-1 advantage.

UCR scored their only run thanks to an RBI triple by Brett Biggler in the fifth inning.

The series continues on Saturday at 2 p.m. and on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Blair Field.
