49ers Strike it Rich at Stanford

Beach Take Palo Alto by Storm PALO ALTO, CA-- Long Beach State track and field produced a combined 42 seasonal bests at the Stanford Invitational, giving The Beach a combined 66 conference qualifers and 10 regional qualifers on the season. The combined effort was one of the strongest over the past decade for the 49ers also put forth eight of the Big West's top marks this season. Jimmy Grabow ran the fastest time since 1972, and second overall with a time of 29:36.83 in the 10,000-meter, while teammate Meredith Kramon made it a clean sweep, running 36:11.61 to have the second-fastest women's time. Both lead the Big West. The 4x400m relay teams both put forth the Big West's best marks as the men had the fourth-best all-time with a mark of 3:14.73, while the women raced to a time of 3:48.67. The Beach also swept through the triple jump, as Ronald Carter had a mark of 48'6.25", while Holly Lipscomb won her section with a mark of 18'1.75". Ezra Kwong was another winner, picking up a mark of 55'7" in the shot put. Kim Heinz rounded it out with a javelin toss of 157'1", which also leads the Big West, and placed her second at the meet. Other strong performances included the 4x100-meter relay team, which finished second to USC with the fourth-fastest time in 49er history at 46:26 and Nicole Blalock, who raced to the fifth-fastest 800-meter time with a mark of 4:32.72. Steve Holland had the eighth-best hammer throw in school-history with a mark of 193'4". |
