LBSU Finishes In Fifth Place In Oregon Kay Hoey wins her first individual title at 218.

EUGENE, ORE - The 49ers crown a new individual champion for the first time this spring as freshman Kay Hoey fired a 1-over 73 en route to victory at 218 on the final day of the Oregon Duck Invitational. The Beach finished tied for fifth overall at 919, two shots behind No. 23 Washington State.
Hoey shot a season low 2-under 70 in the second round on the first day and was two shots behind the leader Kim Welch of Washington State going into today's match. Welch carded a 4-over 76 and finished in second place, one shot behind Hoey. The last women's individual winner was Melanie Furuta in 2001, who carded a 141 (69-72) at the Matador Fall Classic.
The 49ers were ranked No. 77 by Golfweek going into the tournament and finished 19 shots ahead of No. 2 Washington and 22 strokes ahead of No. 69 Oregon State.
Eloise Vicencio and Beth Holtermann finished tied for 27th place at 235 and Julie Kim was tied for 32nd at 236 for the 49ers.
California, ranked No. 30, took the overall team championship at 908 (310-296-302), while No. 34 Oregon finished second at 909 (309-291-309).
The 49ers next tournament will be held on April 4-5 at the Riverbend Golf Club for the Fresno State Invitational in Fresno, Ca.
