LONG BEACH, CA-- Marco Estrada (4-0) pitched six strong innings and Evan Longoria and Brandon Godfrey pounded out three hits a piece as No. 26-ranked Long Beach State (13-8) evened the series with visiting Houston (7-10) with a 5-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Estrada remained perfect with 6.0 strong innings, giving up just one run on four hits, before handing it over to the bullpen. Estrada struck out eight and walked just two. Estrada retired seven in a row and then another six throughout the ballgame.

Steve Hammond pitched two shutout innings out of the pen, while Neil Jamison pitched a perfect ninth.

Houston would take an early 1-0 lead off a Brad Lincoln RBI single in the first, before The Beach scored three unanswered with single runs in the first three innings to lead 3-1 after three innings.

Seant Boatright tied the game in the first with an RBI single, before an RBI single from Longoria made it 2-1 in the second. A fielder's choice in the third made it 3-1.

LBSU added two runs in the sixth inning on back-to-back singles from Chuck Sindlinger and Godfrey to lead 5-1.

Houston starter Kevin Roberts (1-1) gave up five runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings to take the loss.

The series finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. with Jared Hughes (1-1, 2.61) and the Dirtbags taking on Lincoln (1-2, 6.55).
