Azevedo Hits Century Mark with Two Wins
The 49ers will continue in the winner's bracket on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Loyola Marymount, who also won twice. In the nightcap, Bri Hawkins (San Diego) made 12 saves in the net, and Cassie Azevedo (Long Beach/Wilson HS) scored two goals to lead The Beach to a 7-5 win over the Gauchos. The 49ers opened the season with a 7-4 win over Cal Baptist as Alison Braden (Calgary) and Robyn Gordin (Cerritos) both scored two goals. The Beach scored two goals prior to the half to lead 2-0 thanks to goals from Braden at 3:17 and Tara Campbell (Montreal) with 55 seconds left and then went up 4-0 after three quarters. Gordin's tallies in the third period with 3:49 and 59 seconds left, virtually put the contest out of reach at 4-0.
