LONG BEACH, CA-- Chris Jones and Brandon Godfrey each drove in two runs as No. 22-ranked Long Beach State (8-6) swept the series with San Diego State (2-11), winning the finale 6-1. The top four hitters in the 49ers order combined four nine of the team's 11 hits.

Long Beach State outfielder Sean Boatright added three hits in his second-straight start since injuring his hamstring in the season opener at Arizona State. Jones, on his 22nd birthday, also had three hits, while Godrey had two.

The Dirtbags scored their first earned runs of the weekend in the third inning as back-to-back doubles by Godfrey and Boatright made it 2-1. LBSU tacked on a run in the fifth off a double from Jones. Two more runs would come home in the seventh as an RBI single by Godfrey made it 4-1, before a bases loaded fielding error by shortstop Lance Zawardzki made it 5-1.

Jared Hughes (1-0) went the first 5.0 innings, giving up one run on five hits, while his counterpart at SDSU, Andres Esquibel (1-3), countered with three runs on six hits over 6.0 innings.

Brian Anderson got the final five outs for his first save.

The 49ers will host Pepperdine on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to close out a seven-game homestand. LBSU travels to top-10 ranked Baylor next weekend for three games.
