LONG BEACH, CA-- Reliever Shaun Burke (0-1) threw a potential double play ball to the backstop allowing two runs to come home in the ninth as No. 22-ranked Long Beach State (6-6) snapped a five-game slide with a 2-1 win over visiting San Diego State (2-9).

The win was set up after SDSU starter Bruce Billings exited the game after pitching a four-pitch walk to Brandon Godfrey to lead off the ninth. Billings ended up with the no-decision, despite striking out 10 and giving up just five hits over 8.0 innings.

With Godfrey on first, Evan Longoria, trying to lay down a sacrifice, popped it back of the plate, where catcher Jorday Swayden sprawled out to make the catch. Godfrey wisely tagged up. Jamie Huizar then singled through the right side, before Jordan Struble walked to load the bases.

With Tito Cruz up, the Dirtbag catcher hit a comebacker, where Burke picked it up and threw about 10 feet wide of the plate allowing Godfrey and Huizar to score and make it 2-1. Brian Anderson (1-0), who pitched a scoreless ninth, picked up the win.

Long Beach State starter Cesar Ramos went 8.0 strong innings giving up one run on eight hits, while striking out a career-tying 10. LBSU outfielder Steve Velazco had two hits, while Swayden had three hits for the Aztecs.

The two teams go back at it on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m.
