The former starter excelled in the bullpen for the National League Champions, compiling a 2.66 ERA over 36 appearances in 2005. He pitched in two games in this year's Fall Classic and has appeared in six post season games over two seasons with the Astros. The former fifth round pick in 1999, went 16-6 over 237.0 innings and three seasons for the Dirtbags form 1997 to 1999. He struck out 183 and walked 71, leading The Beach to a Big West title in 1997 and its fourth CWS appearance in 1998. A spot starter a year earlier, Gallo emerged as the staff ace in 1998. Gallo would pitch the Dirtbags into the Regional Championship with an 89-pitch complete game to eliminate Stanford, before starting two games in Omaha. Gallo went 6-2 with a team-best 3.41 ERA. He followed that up with a 10-3 record and 2.48 ERA in 1999, earning Big West Pitcher of the Year honors and first team All-America accolades. One of only a handful of players who can say he completed the Long Beach trifecta, he played his freshman year at Long Beach City College after an All-Moore League career at Millikan High School. Millikan was ranked No. 3 nationally his senior year in 1995, as the Ram outfielder, yes we said outfielder, and pitcher batted .326 with an 0.52 ERA on the mound. Mike and his wife, Kristin, still reside in Long Beach. |
