Cervenka Earns Weekly Honor Junior Pitcher Named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week
May 17, 2004 IRVINE, CA -- Junior Meredith Cervenka, of the Long Beach State softball team, was selected as the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. It is her third Big West Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
Cervenka (La Crescenta, Calif.) earned Pitcher of the Week honors after posting a 1-0 record and a save in the three-game series versus Cal State Northridge, May 14-15. Cervenka pitched game one of the series, allowing just one run on five hits, and nine strikeouts on Friday. She collected the save in game three, striking out three Matadors without allowing a run in three innings of work on Saturday. In all, Cervenka allowed just one run on seven hits and 12 strikeouts in 10.0 innings of work for a 0.70 ERA. For the season, Cervenka has compiled a 1.16 ERA (No. 2 in the conference, No. 41 in the country) and a 19-5 record (No. 1 in the conference).
Long Beach State (48-11) won the Big West Conference championship, and was awarded the No. 3 seed in the NCAA/ UCLA Regional, May 20-23. The 49ers will square off versus Ivy League champions, Cornell on Thursday, May 20 at 9:00 a.m. at Easton Stadium in Westwood, Calif. |
