Torres Collects League Honor Junior Lands Third Pitcher of the Week Award this Season
April 26, 2004 IRVINE, CA -- Long Beach State junior pitcher, Marcel Torres, was named as the Big West Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. She shared the award with Cal Poly's Eva Nelson.
Torres (Diamond Bar, Calif.) earned Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 Long Beach State win over CS Fullerton on April 25. Torres also added five strikeouts vs. the Titans. She also connected for a two-run home run in game two of the double-header on April 24 in the 4-1 49er victory. For the season, Torres has compiled a league low 0.83 ERA and a 12-2 overall record. She has pitched 16 consecutive scoreless innings and has only allowed five hits since April 10. This was her third Pitcher of the Week award this season.
Long Beach State (40-10, 10-2 Big West) faces Pacific for a three-game series at the 49er Softball Complex May 1-2. This is the first time since 1997 that LBSU has won 40 or more games in a season. |
