Hildebrand Named AVCA National Player of the Week This is his Second AVCA National POW this Season
April 26, 2004 COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Sophomore setter Tyler Hildebrand, of the Long Beach State men's volleyball team, was named as the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 25.
Hildebrand (Mesa, AZ) was chosen as the National Player of the Week after recording his third double-double of the season in a 3-0 sweep over ninth-ranked UC Santa Barbara in the MPSF 1st Rd. playoff match on April 24 at The Pyramid. Hildebrand connected for a match-high 51 assists (17.00/gm) and a career-high 11 digs. His 51 assists gave him 3,152 for his career, placing him third all-time at Long Beach State in career assists. He also chipped in two kills on two attempts, and directed the 49er offense to a .360 attack percentage with no setting errors in the victory. This was his second AVCA National Player of the Week honor this season (Mar. 8). Former 49er David McKienzie was a two-time AVCA National Player of the Week recipient in both 2001 and 1999.
For the season, Hildebrand has compiled 1,559 assists for a 14.17 per game average (No. 1 in the country), while adding 155 digs and 73 blocks.
Long Beach State (26-5) has won five straight matches and will face No. 3-ranked UCLA in the MPSF semifinal match on Thursday, Apr. 29 in Provo, UT. |
