49ers Drop 5-game to UH

LBSU Drops Five Game Set to Hawai'i HONOLULU, HI – The No. 2-ranked Long Beach State men's volleyball team dropped a tough five-game decision to the No. 6 ranked Hawaii Warriors, 3-2, on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Game scores were 30-25, 25-30, 31-29, 28-30, 13-15. Long Beach State fell to 21-5, 14-4 MPSF, while Hawaii improved to 15-8, 11-6 MPSF. The loss snapped the 49ers' seven-match winning streak. Jeff Wootton recorded his third straight 20+ kill effort with a team-high 21, to go along with a match-high 12 digs for his second double-double of the season. David Lee added 19 kills on 26 swings (one error) for a .692 attack percentage and four blocks, while Scott Touzinsky chipped in with 16 kills. Tyler Hildebrand netted 65 assists, four blocks, and three kills. Robert Tarr and Nate Hagstrom had two aces each. Matt Bender led the Warriors with a match-high 27 kills in the win. Long Beach State connected for a .333 hitting percentage (76-27-147), and out-dug the Warriors, 44-36. However UH out-blocked LBSU, 14.5-10. The 49ers held an 11-9 lead in game five, before UH tied the score at 11-11, courtesy of a Bender kill. Hawaii won the match on a 49er service error. Both teams play again on Saturday, April 03 at 7:00 p.m. HST. |
