49ers Defeat North Texas, 1-0 Fall to Oregon State in Day Three of Fresno State Tournament
March 13, 2004 FRESNO, CA -- The No. 25-ranked Long Beach State softball team split its two games at the Clovis Auto Row Softball Classic on the campus of Fresno State on Saturday, defeating North Texas, 1-0 but falling to Oregon State, 5-0 in the morning game. Long Beach State is 19-7 on the season.
Jamie Farnworth helped Long Beach State score the lone run of the game versus North Texas in the bottom of the fourth inning when she led off with a single to left field. Two batters later, Roxanne Staniorski connected for a double to right-center field to plate Farnworth.
That was all that starting pitcher, Lindsey Knoff (4-2) needed for The Beach, as she allowed just four hits to earn her second shutout of the season.
The 49ers fell to the Oregon State Beavers in the morning game, 5-0. OSU broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs off of LBSU starting pitcher, Meredith Cervenka. Oregon State added another run in the bottom of the fifth off of Marcel Torres.
Long Beach State left 11 runners on base. Colleen Burdick went 2-for-4 with a double for The Beach. Cervenka fell to 7-3 on the season after giving upfour runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work.
