49ers Finish In 3rd Place At UOP

Beach Places Third At Pacific Invitational
Senior Torey Edwards Ties For 2nd Place With A 208

STOCKTON, CA--The Long Beach State men's golf team kicked off its 2003-04 season with a third place finish at the Pacific Invitational held at The Reserve at Spanos Park. The 49ers (287-285-292--864) finished 10 shots behind tournament champion Georgia Southern (854) and six shots behind second place Cal State Northridge (858).

Individually, senior Torey Edwards had a great tournament as he tied for second place with an eight-under-par 208 (70-67-71). Georgia Southern's Aron Price won the individual title with a 12-under par 204 (71-66-67). Freshman Ryan Wood, who was competing as an individual this tournament, tied for 11th place with an even par 216 (70-71-75) and senior Chris Gilley tied for 25th with a three-over-par 219 (73-72-74).

"This was a good start to the year," said 49er head coach Bob Livingstone. "We're not satisfied though. We feel that we're better than that and we hope to prove it at Oregon State later this week. Torey had an outstanding tournament. I was very pleased to see him get off to such a good start. This tournament gave him some confidence as we head into the year."

The 49ers head up the coast to Oregon where they will compete on Thursday and Friday at the Northwest Collegiate Classic at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, OR.
