| SELECT GROUP HEAD TO OXY Last Chance Qualifier at Occidental Last Stop Before Conference

LONG BEACH, CA-- A small group of track and field athletes will travel to Eagle Rock, CA to compete at the Occidental Invitational this Saturday. This will be the last opportunity for several athletes to qualify for the conference championships or improve seasonal marks. Field events begin at 11:00am with the hammer, and track events follow. Nine throwers will make the trip to Oxy this weekend. They include conference leaders senior Cory Loebl (discus, 187'01") and junior Stephanie Sampson (hammer, 190'01"), as well as regional qualifer redshirt freshman Steve Holland (hammer, 180'00'). Juniors Samy Meredith (hammer, 165'10") and Bobby Lugo (discus, 163'07"; hammer, 177'03") are just a few feet within regional qualifying marks and will attempt to achieve them at Oxy. Senior javelin thrower Frank Rodriguez (214'02") and junior Ryan McHugh (171'11") will also compete. In the sprints, junior Gina Londono will compete in the 110m hurdles (14.52), senior Regina Young in the 100m (12.53), junior Michael Dickran in the 400m (49.31) and junior Shingo Suzumura in the 110m hurdles (14.41). Sophomores Krystal Chinn (10'06") and Kristen Hambaroff (11'06") will compete in the pole vault. Freshman Lindsay Coy will compete in the triple jump (36'02") and senior Tara Egipto will compete in the long jump (17'06"). The distance squad will travel nine athletes to the Oxy meet. Sophomores Veronica Capron (19:47.68) and Beth Wahlstrom (19:56.12) will compete in the 5000m, while junior Monica Salazar (5:10.91) and freshman Shannon Skager (5:16.03) will compete in the 1500m. Juniors Chris Bayne (9:51.73) and Matt Hall (9:59.17) will try again to hit the Big West standard in the steeplechase. Junior Loren Childers (15:54.43) and freshman Daniel Estrella (15:41.35) will run the 5000m, while junior Jake Kruczynski (4:01.13) will compete in the 1500m. |
