James Logeman ties For 19th With a 212 February 4, 2003 TUCSON, Ariz. – The Long Beach State men's golf team opened up its spring season with an 11th place finish at the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate at the Arizona National Golf Course in Tucson, AZ. The 49ers shot a three-round total of 855 (283-289-283), finishing three-over-par. The University of Arizona won the team title with an 829, besting UCLA's 831. The win marks the 58th team title in Arizona program history.
The win was Arizona's first team title since April 2001, when the Wildcats captured the U.S. Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif. Arizona's total of 23 strokes under par equaled the eighth-best finish in relation to par in school history.
Chris Nallen led the way for Arizona, as the junior from Blaristown, N.J., shot a final round 69 (-2) to finish in second place individually with a 204 (-9) total. It was Nallen's fourth top-10 finish of the season and the 12th of his career. With three rounds in the 60s in this event, Nallen has posted six scores in the 60s in his last eight rounds played. He finished one stroke behind UTEP's Chris Baryla, who captured individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 203 (-10).
Leading the way for the 49ers was junior James Logeman(Oak Park, CA) who shot a three-round total of 212 (70-72-70) to tie for 19th place. Junior Chris Gilley (La Habra, CA) shot a 214 (73-71-70) to tie for 33rd and senior Tyler Mays (Las Vegas, NV) shot a 216 (68-78-70) to tie for 42nd.
"Even though we finished in 11th place, this was a very good tournament for us," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "We had good wins over Oregon, UC Irvine and Fresno State. I was very pleased with our overall scoring."
The 54-hole tournament was contested at Arizona National Country Club at Sabino Springs, a par 71, 6,793-yard facility.
