Stacy Black Scores 3 Goals For The 49ers
LONG BEACH, CA -- USCs Katrin Dierolf scored four goals to lead the #3-ranked USC womens water polo team to an 11-8 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) victory on Saturday afternoon over #11-Long Beach State at the 49er campus pool. With the win the Trojans improve to 6-1 and 1-0 in the MPSF, while the 49ers fall to 2-3 and 0-1.
The first half was all USC, as Dierolf scored her first goal of the game at 5:32 on a penalty shot, giving USC a 1-0 lead. Goals by Sofia Konoukh (5:34) and Nina Wengst (2:59) in the second quarter gave the Trojans a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the third quarter the 49ers got their offense in gear scoring four times. Long Beach was able to pull to within one goal three different times in the quarter, but USC scored three goals i n the final 2:19 of the period to take an 8-4 lead. The 49ers Ashley Richardson scored at 6:01 on a penalty shot and then Angelica Garcia followed with a goal at 5:04 to cut the margin to 3-2. Senior Stacy Black scored two of her three goals in the third quarter, her second came at 3:00, to cut the deficit to 5-4. Sandrivera Milicev scored at 2:19, giving USC a 6-4 lead, and then Laura Trunk (1:07) and Konoukh (0:09) scored to close out the quarter.
Dierolf scored twice early on in the fourth quarter and USC held an 11-5 lead th the 2:30 mark, but the 49ers fought back scoring three goals in the final 1:58 to make the final score 11-8.
Richardson and Roberta Stewart both scored twice for the 49ers, to compliment Blacks three tallies. USC goalie Sarah Mix had four goalie saves, while her counterpart, Amanda Wightman, had three.
