Jessica Barnard begins her second year as the 49ers' assistant cross country and distance coach.

Barnard wrapped up a stellar four-year career at Long Beach State in the fall of 2012. She established personal bests of 17:43.6 in the 5K and 21:21.3 in the 6K. Barnard placed among the top-25 runners at the Big West Cross Country Championships as a junior and senior.

In the spring of 2012, she concluded her track & field career by claiming the Big West title in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in with a school-record 10:22.90. Barnard also won the event at the prestigious Cal-Nevada Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries.

In addition, Barnard ranks fifth on the LBSU all-time charts in the 800m (2:10.13). She was a four-time Big West qualifier in the 800m and three-time qualifier in the steeplechase. Barnard's best finish in the 800m came in 2010 when she advanced to the finals and placed ninth overall. She also scored in the steeplechase as a junior (2011).

Barnard graduated from Long Beach State with a bachelor's degree in communications.
