Casey Kear enters his second season at Long Beach State as an assistant coach & recruiting coordinator for the track and field program. Kear began his role this past fall while assisting with the men’s and women’s cross country teams.
Kear comes to the Beach after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Nebraska (2014-2017). While at Nebraska, Kear helped lead the Huskers to three Big Ten Track and Field Championships. He also coached six NCAA West Regional qualifiers while helping the distance group rewrite the record books with 14 top ten performances on the Cornhusker all-time list. Kear, who specializes in coaching the steeplechase, led the Nebraska women steeplers to a top 25 national event squad ranking in his final year. Kear is a USA Track and Field Certified Level 2 Coach and a USTFCCCA certified strength and conditioning coach.
Before joining the Cornhuskers, Kear served as an assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene University, where he coached five national qualifiers in distance events (2013). Before his time at Point Loma, Kear was the head coach for girls’ cross country and assistant track and field coach at San Juan Hills High School from 2011-13. During his time at San Juan Hills, Kear coached three CIF Qualifiers in the 800 Meters and guided athletes to national rankings in the girl’s 800 meters (23rd), girls sprint medley relay (25th), and girls distance medley relay (42nd).
From 2006-10, Kear competed in cross country and track at Point Loma Nazarene University. In 2008, he was the GSAC (Golden State Athletic Conference) a member of the 4x800 Meter Relay Championship team. His success continued on into 2010, where the three-time NAIA national qualifier was the GSAC 3000 Meter Steeplechase champion and an NAIA Champion of Character Award recipient. His success helped lead Point Loma Nazarene to the 2010 GSAC Track and Field championship.
Kear earned a bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies from Point Loma Nazarene in 2010 and a master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration at Concordia University in Irvine, CA, in 2013.
