Long Beach State pulled away in the second half against Golden West before a commanding performance against Orange Coast.
Long Beach State got off to a slow start in the opening game against Golden West, as Lucca Van Der Woude scored the first of his three goals to open the scoring. The Beach bounced back with four straight goals, but the Rustlers had another answer, taking back the lead in the second quarter behind two straight goals from Wemmer van Beukering at 5-4.
The Beach settled the nerves with a penalty goal from Artur Diaz in the next possession, and goals from Corbin Stanley and Federico Gulisano put the Beach on top 7-5 before halftime. Stanley opened the scoring in the third quarter to continue to build the edge, and then Long Beach State outscored Golden West 7-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 20-11 win.
Ivan Zivaljevic led Long Beach State in the second game of the day with four goals as the Beach dominated Orange Coast College in a 20-7 win. Zivaljevic opened the scoring in the second game, and Chase Krupitzer followed as the Beach picked up a 2-0 lead in just over a minute.
Leading 5-1 at the end of the first quarter and 7-3 at halftime, Long Beach State poured it on in the third, outscoring OCC 10-1 in the quarter to push out to a 17-4 lead, and the teams eased to the finish in a 20-7 tuneup before the third and final contest of the day, the team's annual alumni match.
No. 7 Long Beach State will have brief break from competition, next returning to action at the MPSF Invitational beginning on September 18.
