Long Beach State had a season-high 18.5 blocks in the win.

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Sophomore Sidney Hamaker had 19 kills and six aces, a season-high for the team as Long Beach State went on the road and pushed their winning streak to 10 straight matches, downing UC San Diego 25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22.

Hamaker's six aces were a career-high for the sophomore and an individual best on the season for the Beach, who also had a big night at the net with a season-high 18.5 blocks, led by Pola Bujnarowska who had eight blocks, as did setter Madi Maxwell who came close to her third triple-double of the season with a different category, finishing with 26 assists and a team-high 17 digs to go with eight blocks on the night.

Long Beach State (10-2, 2-0 Big West) took the opening set. Working out to a 10-7 lead, UC San Diego (5-7, 1-1 Big West) rallied to tie the set, but Maxwell ended the run with a kill. A Hamaker kill put the Beach on top 15-13, and after an error on a strong serve by the sophomore, an ace forced the Tritons into a timeout. Hamaker kept the run going with another ace, and a Reagan Hope kill helped the run continue all the way to 20-13. A Maxwell dump made the score 24-18, and the Beach closed out the first set 25-19.

A big rally for the Tritons changed the complexion of the match in the second. Ireland McNees clipped the tape for an ace to give UC San Diego an early lead, but Hamaker answered with her fourth ace of the match to tie the set, and then her fifth pushed the lead to 7-5. Hope and Kendal Murphy combined for a huge block to make the score 11-6 which forced the Tritons to stem the momentum. UCSD accomplished that, cutting the lead to 16-15, but Maxwell and Hope combined for back-to-back blocks to take a 20-17 lead. Marleena Catalan took over serving after a sideout and UCSD rallied with a huge run. An ace tied the set at 20-20 before an overpass kill from Molly McCluskey gave the Tritons a 21-20 lead. The run would go all the way to 24-20 before an LBSU sideout, and UC San Diego took the second 25-21.

With that momentum, back-to-back aces from Paulina Baillie sparked a quick start for the Tritons in the third, as UC San Diego took an 8-3 lead. Long Beach State was able to settle, and pulled back into the set. A Bujnarowska/Hamaker block cut the lead to one at 15-14, and then an Anna Jelinek ace tied the set at 16-16. At that time, the Beach wasn't able to pull over the top, and UCSD neared the win up 23-21. The Beach found their top hitter though, going to Hamaker for three straight kills to take a 24-23 lead and a solo block from the sophomore closed the set in a 25-23 win for the Beach.

Getting the edge in the third helped Long Beach State re-establish control in a tight fourth set. A Hamaker kill gave the Beach the first two-point edge for either team at 11-9. Hamaker's sixth ace pushed the lead to 14-11, and back-to-back kills by Kendal Murphy closed out the match in a 25-22 fourth-set win.

With the win, Long Beach State remains undefeated against UC San Diego in the 13-game series between the programs. The 10 straight wins are the most for the program since the 2014 season under Hall of Fame coach Brian Gimmillaro.

Long Beach State will close out their six-match road swing with two more conference games away from the LBS Financial Credit Union Pyramid. That will start with a match against CSUN on Friday, October 2 before facing Cal State Bakersfield on October 3. Both matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
