No. 6 Men’s Water Polo Prepares For MPSF Invite

Long Beach State climbed into a tie for sixth this week before the key non-conference tournament.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Men's Water Polo will play four games as part of the MPSF Invite, a tournament that annually features the best teams in the country in a great non-conference showcase.
This season, Stanford is the host and the tournament features 15 out of the Top 16 teams in the latest Division I rankings, including the Beach who moved into a tie for No. 6 with UC Davis. The Beach will hold the (6) seed in the tournament and will open up against a Big West opponent in UC Santa Barbara.
That game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 18, the first of four games the team is guaranteed to play. In a bracketed format, winners and losers of each contest will be matched up, with the first of two games on Saturday to be against either the hosts Stanford or Santa Clara based on Friday's results.
The tournament will then finish with placement matches to determine first the 16th place in the competition.
Long Beach State enters the weekend with a 6-1 overall mark, beginning the year with a dominant trip to the Triton Invite before falling to No. 2 USC 17-11. Preseason All-Big West selection Corbin Stanley leads the team with 23 goals, newcomer Federico Gulisano has added 21 and four other players have 10 or more goals already in the season.
