Jayson Simpson Returns To Long Beach State

Simpson has been hired as the Assistant Athletic Director for Events, Operations & Championship.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Jayson Simpson returns to Long Beach State as the Assistant Athletic Director for Events, Operations, & Championships following his hire in September. In that role, Simpson will provide strategic leadership for Long Beach State's event operations unit, manage third-party rentals and facility scheduling, and guide tournament and championship logistics for events hosted by Long Beach State.
Simpson comes to Long Beach State from UC Santa Barbara, where he served in a similar role for the past two seasons. As an Assistant Athletic Director, Simpson managed day-to-day operations for UCSB's facilities and Division I events. He also led multiple capital improvement projects and directed the planning and execution for UC Santa Barbara's Harder Stadium to be a premier soccer venue. Simpson was instrumental in helping UCSB host the United States Women's National Team versus Chile in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,000 and in establishing the campus as a Team Base Camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to that, Simpson worked with San Diego State for two years. He served as the lead event manager across multiple venues, hiring and supervising Event Staff, and coordinated collegiate and third-party events. Simpson served as an Event Assistant for all Men's Basketball home games for SDSU in the 2022-2023 season and traveled to Houston for the Final Four and National Championship games. He also led several conference championship tournaments for multiple sports.
Simpson held internships during his time in graduate school, which included a few stints with the Los Angeles Angels and the Los Angeles Rams. He was among the front-office staff when the Rams won Super Bowl LVI in 2022.
It's a full circle return for Simpson, who started his career in collegiate athletics at Long Beach State. Simpson previously worked for the Athletics Department from 2017-2021 as an Event Supervisor, Event Management Intern, and Concessions Worker. During that time, Simpson assisted with numerous LBSU events, including the 2019 NCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship. Simpson earned both his Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology and Master's Degree in Sports Management from Long Beach State.
"I am extremely happy to be back at the Beach," said Simpson. "I chose Long Beach State for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and returning now truly feels like coming home. Everything I have done throughout my career has led me to this moment. From my first job working in the concession stands at LBSU athletic events to returning as an Assistant Athletic Director, I couldn't be more thrilled to serve in this role at a place that has meant so much to me. I am grateful for all of my previous experiences and for the opportunities Long Beach State has given me. I love the history of the campus and athletic department, and I look forward to contributing to incredible championship events and showcasing some of the best facilities and event experiences the region has to offer."
