LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State has hired Jessi Lumsden as the program's Student-Athlete Development Coordinator, a key role supporting student-athletes and providing meaningful growth opportunities outside of competition.
In her position as Student-Athlete Development Coordinator, Lumsden will coordinate Long Beach State's award-winning BeAChamipon program, a student-athlete development curriculum providing programming focused on career readiness, leadership development, life skills, and other areas specifically targeted by student-athletes for student-athletes to support their experience throughout their collegiate experience. Lumsden will also guide the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), oversee community service opportunities and collaborate with campus partners to connect student-athletes with university resources.
"Jessi brings a valuable combination of collegiate athletics experience, program leadership, and firsthand understanding of the student-athlete journey," said Senior Associate Athletics Director, Tiffany Edlin. "She has demonstrated an ability to build strong campus partnerships and turn ideas into meaningful experiences for students. We are excited to welcome her to Long Beach State and have her lead the continued growth of our BeAChampion program."
Lumsden joins Long Beach State after four years at Chapman University, where she most recently served as Athletics Department Administrative Supervisor. Supporting 23 varsity programs, she helped lead student-athlete development and departmental operations while coordinating the Playbook For Life initiative at Chapman. That included multiple campus events in a similar role, including advising SAAC, managing the Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony and the Athletics Welcome Back BBW and working with campus partners.
"I am very excited to be joining the Long Beach State Athletics Department as the Student-Athlete Development Coordinator," said Lumsden. "My own holistic development played such a meaningful role in shaping my experience and growth as a collegiate student-athlete. I know firsthand how impactful those opportunities can be, and I am grateful to now help create those same meaningful experiences for current and future generations of Beach student-athletes."
A two-time All-American in women's volleyball at Chapman, Lumsden served as the president of SAAC before moving into athletic administration with her alma mater. She completed her MBA from Chapman in 2025.
