Tineke Hinton, Alejandro de Castro Piera Long Beach State’s Big West Scholar-Athletes Of The Year

The pair are Long Beach State’s Male and Female selections for the conference honor.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Big West Conference recognized two athletes from each member institution, one male and one female, as the Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year, with Alejandro de Castro Piera of Men's Golf and Tineke Hinton of Beach Volleyball earning the honor for Long Beach State.
Alejandro de Castro Piera comes away with another significant honor following his final season at Long Beach State. The Big West Golfer of the Year, de Castro finished the season ranked in the Top 50 nationally, and finished in the Top 10 in 9 out of 12 tournaments during the season. Graduating in May as a Psychology major, de Castro recently qualified for the British Open as an amateur, representing LBSU at The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.
Tineke Hinton played a major part in Long Beach State's success this season. Playing in the second flight through the season, Hinton was a Second-Team All-Big West selection and helped Long Beach State return to the NCAA Championship, including earning a win during the team's time in Gulf Shores while going 23-9 overall during the season. A sophomore, Hinton is a Management Major.
