Elissa Guerrero Named Big West Freshman Of The Week

Moving into the starting lineup, the freshman had a huge week for the Beach.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Elissa Guerrero was named the Big West Freshman of the Week after clutch hitting over four games for Long Beach State Softball.

Starting all four games as the team's designated player, Guerrero hit safely in all four, hitting .467 on the week with three multi-hit games.

That started with a two-hit game against No. 8 UCLA where she had a season-high three RBI against the Bruins. Guerrero then had two hits each in a pair of wins to begin the Cal Poly series on Saturday.

Finally, her only hit Sunday was a key one, giving Long Beach State the lead with a solo home run in the ninth inning on the way to a 3-2 victory and a sweep on the road against the Mustangs. Guerrero slugged .667 over the weekend and tied for a team-high six RBI over the four games.

Guerrero joins three-time Freshman of the Week award winner Nina Sepulveda as Beach first years who have been honored this season with the award.
