Nina Sepulveda Claims Third Big West Freshman Of The Week Honor

Clutch hitting from the infielder helped Long Beach State sweep UC Santa Barbara.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Clutch hitting from freshman Nina Sepulveda helped Long Beach State sweep UC Santa Barbara last week, earning the third baseman another Big West Freshman of the Week honor, her third of the season.
Sepulveda hit safely in all three games of the series, but her big moment came in game two. Coming into the bottom of the seventh trailing 3-2, Sepulveda had a classic moment, delivering a game-winning base hit with the bases loaded and two outs to win the game in front of a group of her former teammates and coaches from Quartz Hill High School attending the game.
That was part of a three-game sweep of the Gauchos, who had entered the weekend in first place with just two conference losses. She finished the weekend with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored along with a stolen base.
The award is the fourth weekly honor for Sepulveda, who is having a phenomenal season. The MVP of the Puerto Vallarta College Classic, Sepulveda has now won Freshman of the Week three times as well as earning Big West Field Player of the Week following the UC Riverside series.
