Malayna Terrones Wins First Big West Field Player Of The Week Honor

Terrones hit safely in all five games in a strong start to the season.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Malayna Terrones was selected as the first Big West Field Player of the Week for the 2026 season after a fantastic opening weekend.

Terrones started as Long Beach State's designated player in each of the team's first five games, and lived up the role offensively. Hitting safely in all five games, Terrones started the season with a .692 batting average, going 9-for-13 with a pair of walks, scoring five runs.

Highlights came in a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI in a win over Utah Tech, and going 4-for-4 against Oregon State in the team's second matchup with the Beavers.

In all, Terrones reached base at a .733 percentage, only making accounting for four outs in the course of five games to start the season.

This week's award marks the second of the career for the third-year player, after earning Big West Freshman of the Week in 2024. Terrones and the Beach will continue play this week, taking part in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico.
